SeriesQPAC Opening CelebrationsDate20th April 1985DescriptionThe Royal Festival Performance, directed by Stephen Hall, included every major choir and orchestra in Brisbane. The program featured a short film The Performing Arts in Queensland narrated by actor Ray Barrett. A dedicatory Ode to the House by David Malouf was performed by Alan Edwards, and the Overture from Beethoven's The Consecration of the House played by The Queensland Theatre Orchestra. Poulenc's Les Biches was performed by The Queensland Ballet and an aria from Meyerbeer's Le Prophete was performed by Margreta Elkins and The Queensland Symphony Orchestra. The prologue from Boito's Mefistofele was presented by the largest operatic choir ever assembled on an Australian stage with a choral section of 340 voices from the Lyric Opera of Queensland State Choirs, Queensland Symphony Theatre Orchestras, soloist Noel Mangin and dancers from The Queensland Ballet, together with excerpts from Side by Side by Sondheim presented by Queensland Theatre Company and Festival Folksongs by Richard Mills.
